In case of a NHL lockout, it is likely that some of the NHL stars will create a team and tour Europe. The idea will be modelled on the Team Gretzky that toured Europe during the NHL labour conflict in 1994. Team Gretzky had prominent names like Mark Messier, Brett Hull, Brian Leetch, Poul Coffey and Marty McSorley, and of course Wayne Gretzky.
The tour was a big success, and it has been confirmed that players like Mats Sundin and Daniel Alfredsson is involved in negotiations to create another team.
In the end, the team might include many Swedes. For a number of the Swedish Elitseries clubs have made clear that they are not prepared to pay even the average SEL salary if some NHL players want to play in Sweden during the lockout.

Here's about all you need to know:
The Team was called "The Ninety-Nine All Stars" and had 19 players:
Goalies: Grant Fuhr and Kelly Hrudey
Defense: Rob Blake, Paul Coffey, Todd Gill, Charlie Huddy, Marty McSorley and Al McInnis
Forwards: Wayne Gretzky, Steve Yzerman, Brett Hull, Sergei Fedorov, Mark Messier, Kirk Muller, Steve Larmer, Rick Tocchet, Tony Granato, Ross Courtnail and Pat Conacher.
Coaches: current San Jose GM Doug Wilson (head coach) Wayne's father, Walter (assistent coach)
The team played one warm up game against Detroit Vipers (which the All Stars lost 4-3) before going to Europe.
The European tour took place in December 1994. The All Stars played 8 games in 14 days (incl. the games vs Vipers)
1December 1994: Detroit Vipers (IHL), 4-3 loss 3 December 1994: Jokerit, Finland, 7-1 win 4 December 1994: Ilves Tampere, Finland, 4-3 OT loss 6 December 1994: Norwegian Spectrum All Stars, 6-3 win 9 December 1994: Djurgaarden, Sweden, 9-3 win 10 December 1994: Vastra Frolunda, Sweden, 5-2 win 12 December 1994: Malmo, Sweden, 6-5 OT loss 14 December 1994: German All Stars, 8-5 win
btw, the tour was captured on film for two Hockey Night in Canada episodes.
