One thing I really would like to reiterate is the focus on Canadian Hockey as "crash and bang".
Canadian hockey has always had the highest skill level component comparable with the Soviets, Russians, Czechs, and Swedes.
The "crash and bang" probably refers to many of the World Championship teams assembled hastily together with players who showed up from bottom rung of NHL in 70's and 80's to play against best of above.
Remember Canadian teams at national and NHL level always found themselves matched up against Soviet National team, or stacked up top club teams. Hardly a level playing field.
This aggressive component that is best shown on Canadian Canada Cup, and now World Cup and Olympic editions since 1998 is the best definition of Canadian hockey and not the "physical and brutal" label of the author on this post.
None the less, an excellent and informative expose on the history of hockey.

Thanks DanCan,
More than results (that I can usually have*) what could interest me is comments from people who have actually seen a game - live or on tv
* the tracking of friendly junior or women games is somtimes harder

Marc, just ask if any us have seen this and that game. Some of us often comment on games that are not broadcasted on a big scale. I can help you with the Danish Junior friendlies. Danish women hockey is more difficult as the Danish Ice Hockey Federation is doing a poor job in that compartment. But let me see what I can do. One of my friends' friends is coaching one of the teams in the Danish women league. She even played for Denmark in the World Championship in 1992. As for Sweden, you can track all the results at www.swehockey.se
