Yes Gurj, you made a very good point there. There won´t be a team unless the players respect the coaches and vice versa. In Finland we have very warm memories of Jurzinov sr. He´s the man behind Saku Koivu and many other finnish top players. He was the head coach of TPS (in finnish national league) and they won the championship more than once, if my memory serves right.

@ Mrs. Sykora That´s great news, I´m very happy to hear that Ilija Kovalchuk is going to play in the WC afteral And don´t be miserable, I´m sure this is just a temporary lapse in russian hockey (damn...there´s no " thumbs up" smiley)

I'm wondering if any Russian club teams will be willing to release one of their goalies for the WC. Hey, do they really have a choice there?

Hey, do they really have a choice there? I agree, but I read somewhere (sorry can't remember where) that Maxim Sokolov's club team was not happy with him being named to the roster. Again -- I can't remember where I read it at -- so I could even be confusing it a bit.

@ Brimsek39
Hm...maybe Sokolov has some minor injury or something...otherwise that wouldn´t make sense, would it? They will be having a pause in their national league during the WC, won´t they?

TiggerNot sure about the pause in the Russian league schedule. If there is a break then I probably have this wrong. Maybe there is no issue. There's so much turmoil in the Russian Federation I might be getting mixed up.

TiggerI also follow SM Liiga and TPS (besides NHL) -- is there going to be a break in the SM-Liiga? Thanks for any info.

There's no break in Russian schedule. The season starts on the 1st of September and my team plays with Max Sokolov's Avangard ) so, for us it would be good, if they don't have him in the net. But from our side we'll miss Tomas Vlasak, who's in the Czech's roster.

@ Brimsek39 I must be all mixed up ...there´s no need for a brake in SM-liiga, because the next season will start only in mid September, as it allways has. I don´t know how i didn´t even come to think that

And why in the heck would the Finnish league to be stopped anyway due the World Cup, if it began earlier? We have only one (possibly two) player from our home league... you think that the fact Eloranta (and Karalahti?) is missed from TPS (and HIFK?) would cause the whole league to go on brakes?
