I have fantastic news about Hungarian hockey! Today announced, that Székesfehérvár (hometown of Alba Volán) will host the Final four of Continental Cup! I can't believe it! Another huge support and award for our hockey! I think we organized very good tournaments recently (2 div1 wc and especially the u18 div2 wc, the final against Ukraine was played in front of 8 000 enthusiastic fans!). That's why they gave us the right to host it. It is also an award for our improving hockey and enthusiastic fans! It means a lot for our hockey, which has daily financial problems, though year by year the more and more money invested it, but compared with other countries, it is still a very little sum.

Congrats Hungarianfan! Alba Volan have automatically place in final, I hope than Unia will join there too! Your federation have good influences in IHHF and doing good job! Tampa: In the Continental Cup play only clubs which are national champions (first time, in the past second teams are also allowed), of course if they want play there.

Hi Tampalightning! Congrats for the win last night If i´m not wrong, the Continental Cup is for the League Champs from around Europe, but the interest is less and less each year, because of heavy calenders in the season (cup takes place in the middle of the season) and the money factor, just none to be made with this tourny, and expensive travel costs, most of the Scandinavians have pulled out over the years, and the tendency of the other countrys is to do the same... Too bad it´s always interesting to compare the differant leagues, but there has to be some changes made to the modus,so that the Cup once again becomes interesting to the "Bigger" teams.... Cheers and GO FLAMES GO ;D (Sorry!)

To Tampalightning: This tournament is organized for clubs, not national teams. And thanx for your congratulation.
To Lukasz: Thanks for your kind words, I hope the Oswiecim will make it through the last 4!
It seems, that the 6 strongest championships (russian, czech, swedish, finnish, german, swiss) will send only their 2nd placed teams. The other associations will participate with their champions.
There will be a separate tournament organized for the 6 strongest associations champions, called supersix.

Hot news about the topic:
1. The swiss 2nd placed team, HC Lugano proclaimed, that they won't participate in the tournament, cause the hosting was not given to Pozsony, and (at least they believe) we won't able to host it such high level.
2. The estimated expeniture will probably reach the 10 million fts (around 38 000 euro), not included the 50 000 swiss francs (one third of the prize).
I would promise (in every hungarian hockeyfan's name that we will try to do our best, and become good hosts, as we did and were in past times.

Hungary is host of the Division I, world championships, regular, always with year break and this is bigger event that Continental Cup, than I don’t see any problems. For me it is ridiculous excuse, I think that Hungarians standards are the same like polish then it is no problem. For sure Hungary organized much much important not hockey events than this Cup. If they don’t want play they should tell this straight and not search for silly reasons!

What about this? "It seems, that the 6 strongest championships (russian, czech, swedish, finnish, german, swiss)" No no ... There will be russian, czech, swedish, finnish and SLOVAKIAN champions, and because the Supersix will be played in St.Peterburg and not in Switzerland, also SKA St. Peterburg will participate. German champion?

hungarianfan,
Any reason why the tournament has been given to Székesfehérvár instead of the more modern arena in Budapest? I was at the Div 1 WC in 2002, and I must admit that I am surprised that the rink at Székesfehérvár has been given the tournament considering how old and small the building is.
Must admit, though, that did like the town when I was there (actually preferred it to Budapest which really disappointed me), so may see if I can make the long weekend...
Anyway, congrats on the achievement!
Graham.

The Budapest Arena is not so good, than it looks like. (It is hard to see the ctions from some seats). And it is not only built for sports(what a shame), it hosts also other events.
The 2. thing is: The hockey is really popular in Székesfehérvár, and in Bp is not so. The crowd usually is showing more enthusiasm in the country, than in Bp.
