Anyone interested?? Cobourg man selling world's oldest hockey stick, giving funds to charity[/u][/color] Canadian Press Tuesday, June 08, 2004 COBOURG, Ont. (CP) - The world's oldest hockey stick is for sale and charities are going to benefit. The hand-carved, one-piece hickory stick was crafted in the mid-1850s and carries an estimated value of $2 million US. The owner of the hockey stick, Gord Sharpe, received the family heirloom from his great-uncle, Melville Rutherford. It was Melville's grandfather who whittled it well over a century ago. "I have this wonderful piece of Canadian history and during the Stanley Cup playoffs I decided to do something positive with it," Sharpe said. "If we can raise a lot of money for children's charities and environmental initiatives, then that is a positive thing." The sale of the stick will be marketed by www.rebateacause.com. © Copyright 2004 The Canadian Press
