Finally ... we finally fired Maurice and got a new coach! Don't get me wrong, Coach Mo is a class act with immeasurable patience and a dry sense of humor. But his boring, stilting style of play has resulted in the Canes playing so far below their skill level it's ridiculous. Players and fans alike have had glazed eyes for a month now.
So, now we have Peter Laviolette (Islanders) and I couldn't be happier. Maybe now we will start generating some offense and get back in this thing!

Hey everyone it's me (formerly womenshockeyfan). I wish that Toronto would get Maurice on board. A young coach who can relate to the younger players is what they need. Laviolette didn't do much though with the Isles his second year. I can't see that changing very much in Carolina.

The Canes-Canucks game was Maurice's last game as the Canes' coach. Let's hope the Canes turn it around before the season is over.

Apparently Nick Kypreos said tonight on Hockey Central that Peter had been lobbying for the Carolina job for a while so when the former Toronto Maple Leaf handed out his year end gifts he gave Laviolette a set of steak knives to replace the ones that he used to stab Maurice in the back with.

I heard the other day that Paul Maurice is a leading candidate to coach Team Canada at the World Championships in April.

I hope he gets an NHL job and soon. I'd like to see him with the Leafs. That's what the Leafs need-- a younger coach.
