Anybody getting fat from excessive Christmas feastings and treats? I've got some Australian shortbread cookies/biscuits, plum pudding, fruit cake, etc to keep me busy. Marmots need to fatten up for hibernation, eh? Anyway, I was eating some mini chocolate truffles when I looked closely at the packaging. The brand was Dan Cake and it was "Made in Denmark". Eating anything interesting or delicious lately?

I ate so much good stuff Christmas day that I couldn't even eat the pie after dinner. Cabbage rolls, turkey and stuffing, potatoes, 4 different salads, perogies, cucumbers, dill pickles, beet pickles, pickled eggs, and cranberry sauce washed down with gallons of peach, grape, and strawberry wine (all home made). Top it off with pumpkin, apple, blueberry, and banana cream pies, and of course my favorite dessert ....sex in a pan.(yes that is the name of the dessert)

I'm still eating Xmas leftovers ... turkey, stuffing, brussels sprouts with glazed hickory nuts, sweet potatoes glazed with molasses and horseradish, all sorts of wonderful salads and a buche de noel from our local French bakery. The good news is that the weather has been so mild, I'm outside a lot working it off.

Since we are a mixed family we celebrated both Czech and Canadian-style. They take place at different times so it is easy to do both. Not on the stomach though...
Czech Style: This all takes place on the 24th. The first thing is the meal which is simply breaded fried carp (yeah, they really eat carp) and potato salad. There are a few other things some people have, but that is about it for us. And I only eat the least amount of carp I can and still be polite. After this the tree in the next room is lit up and a bell is rung to signify that Baby Jesus was here. Until this point the children still have not seen the tree or the presents under it. The presents are not signed from: since they are all from Baby Jesus.
Canadian Style: After Santa Claus' arrival sometime during the night and the unwrapping of presents, the usual. Turkey, cranberries, salads, potatoes, yams, corn, peas, cookies and coffee. Christmas carols and talking.
We also have a party on the 26th to help with the leftovers. This year we had 15 "helpers." Just the Canadian one that is, because we do that one, Mrs. Wide Asleep's mother does the Carp thang.
