Here is a segment out of the above article: The players picked prove that it pays to answer Canada's call. Seven players from Canada's 2003 world championship team and six from the team which repeated the feat a week ago in Prague will wear the uniform again in the fall. In all, Canada's roster includes 686 international games played by players in those three events.
"You want to reward guys who play in the world championships,'' said Lowe.
MORROW AN EXAMPLE
Gretzky said an example of a player who might not have made the team if he hadn't gone to Prague was Brenden Morrow. "He was one guy who really jumped out at us with his play in Prague.'' Soapbox time here: Ahem.......I think that USA Hockey should take a page out of this and reward players who have played in the past few World's as well, and send a message to players who continually snub the VERY organization that got them to where they are when the decline invitations. Players such as: - Keith Tkachuk
- Doug Weight and
- Bill Guerin, just to name a few
Should be overlooked - as a message to players who do not care about giving back to USA Hockey.! Players on this year's World Championship team such as Ryan Malone, Andy Roach, Richard Park should be rewared for their service. Before, USA Hockey was not in any position to leave some players off their rosters because the USA simply did not have the depth to overlook some players....Now they do! Gurj in Vancouver.
