Demand for World Cup of Hockey tickets has been overwhelming[/u][/color] Thursday, July 22, 2004 TORONTO - It's been eight years since the last World Cup of Hockey and the pace of ticket sales indicates fans are eager for its Aug. 30-Sept. 14 return. "The response has been overwhelming," NHL spokesman Jamey Horan said Thursday. "We're virtually sold out in Canada and Scandinavia." In some cases, tickets cost an arm and a leg but that hasn't discouraged hockey fans. Five-game Air Canada Centre packages in Toronto, including a semifinal game and the championship encounter, have been available for $205 to $3,140 a seat. That averages out at $41 to $628. The average per-game cost of the best seats for regular-season Leafs games is $176. For the two World Cup games that will be played in Montreal's Bell Centre, prices range from $58.66 to $408.34 a ticket. Four World Cup games are to be played in the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. The cheapest package, at $15 US per game, is sold out. Remaining packages are from $131 US ($33 a game) to $335 US ($84 a game). The rate is slightly higher for individual games, with the top-priced semifinal game ticket going for $95 US. Six first-round games will be played in Europe. In Stockholm, prices range from $51 Cdn to $139 Cdn a seat. link: www.canada.com/sports/hockey/story.html?id=CE4489F1-5A39-44A9-B69F-82F679AAD6FD
