Mr.Hull appears in our local paper today announcing that a WHA team for Halifax is a near certainty..he appears to be counting on the murky future of the NHL as the CBA expires Sept 15. and our hunger for hockey if theres a strike/lock out. Now we don't have a pro team so it might fly as a novelty in Halifax..he needs 7000 seats a game to break even..our QMJHL team usually sells 4000 per game [depends on who the visitors are]. But teams in Detroit, Toronto and Dallas? and two in Florida? Do we have the fan base to support both leagues when there is no lockout?
I know i would take in the odd game but when i can spend $13 for a seat [anywhere in the arena]to a QMJHL game and see some of the best up and comers play hockey i can't see me spending $25 to sit in the rafters.
whats the opinion in general will the WHA fly or survive more then a few seasons?

How come Ottawa doesn't have a WHA team? No place to play? After all the overpaid underachievers are at the Corel Centre. The 67's at the Civic Centre. You mean to say they can't come to an agreement with the 67's to share the Civic Centre? I guess the other arenas available don't have enough seating! Oh, that's right it's Ottawa, no one has any money to bring a team here! And besides why would any one in their right minds move to Ottawa! Taxes are too high, a goof for a mayor & our city councillors have no idea on how to generate tax revenue. The only thing they know about is bleeding the taxpayer dry!

I'll believe it when I see an actual game on the ice!

With no 2004-2005 season, if this hockey is any good maybe it will give the NHL a run for it's money! And besides it couldn't be any worse than the hockey the NHL currently puts on the ice! Maybe the WHA might make these fools Bettman & Goodenow change their tiny minds and there will be a CBA agreement instead of the constant harping about no NHL hockey for the next year!

the latest update
WHA hopes to score with Halifax IceBreakers WebPosted Thu Jul 8 15:17:26 2004 CBC NOVA SCOTIA - The World Hockey Association introduced the Halifax IceBreakers on Thursday, the latest step as the league prepares to start playing this fall.
Commissioner Bobby Hull, former star of the WHA, was in Halifax to unveil the new team logo, which features a fisherman holding a hockey stick.
The team has yet to name a general manager and coach, although franchise co-owner John Marshall expects to make an announcement before the July 17 draft.
a fisherman holding a hockey stick? no rink deal no g.m. but hey its a start!

It'll be kind of interesting to see how this goes. The NHL could wind up contracting after the work stoppage is over but if the WHA is successful enough in the next few years, the league might be forced to expand back into old WHA markets it's already left, like Quebec and Winnipeg.
The Dallas franchise announced yesterday it will be known as the Americans and its team colors will be red, white and blue. The rumor around here is that Brett Hull will play for the Americans if there is a work stoppage.

:-*the draft is complete..ok now im really not taking them seriously..miss the opportunity to grab some young underated talent[QMJHL Jean Michel Daoust for starters] and draft guys who won't give you a second look? even with a lock out...i doubt Dany Heatley and Todd Bertuzzi will have much on their minds but coming court dates. just call me shocked and apalled.
