I think everybody here has heard of Don Cherry. He's a hockey commentator on Canada's Hockey Night in Canada broadcast. Although I personally find him irritating it's a bit silly that CBC is putting him on 7-second tape delay for his most recent comments. www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?id=71320Speaking of silliness. Isn't this Janet Jackson "wardrobe malfunction" controversy going a bit overboard?

I never take Grapes really seriously anyhow.
Was the outrage at one bare breast really as large as the Czech media said it was? They often comment on how Americans can have buckets of blood and innards flying in films and on prime-time tv, but at the first sign of skin they get outraged and shocked and (half) cover their eyes.
Here it is considerably different. Nudity (not erotica) is visable on billboards. Former president Havel had a very open extramarital affair, and his popularty rating did not suffer (course there are no Republicans here).
It wasn't even a very nice breast, anyhow.
It did blow a hole in my theory that Janet and Michael Jackson are really one and the same. I mean have you ever seen them together in the same room before?

Don CHerry ... I'm with Jim Rome on this one ... if he doesn't meet Canadian TV standards, then fire him. But the tape delay is absurd. IT's not like you don't know what you're getting with Cherry ... and he's been doing it for a very long time.
On Janet Jackson ... yep, WA, it really did raise quite a ruckus here. From my perspective, the issue wasn't really so much that she bared her breast on TV as the forum for doing it was entirely inappropriate (which it was) and that there had been no hint of this happening during the numerous rehearsals. It was a cheap stunt by a cheap, er, um, ... hmm, what do I call her? Worse than that, she upstaged the Patriots winning the Super Bowl. Shame on her.
From Justin Timberlake's perspective, he was probably just trying to outdo ex-girlfriend Brittany's Madonna kiss.
From a legal perspective, it did violate federal laws (Federal Communications Commission is investigating) because the Super Bowl was aired during "prime time" when children would be watching.

I'm tired of Cherry......
Jackson's seem quite tasteless but the outrage it has caused is far more surprising in my view. If it had received less coverage it would be a non- issue.
Funny how every other horrible crime can be portrayed in graphic detail during prime time but one nipple .......well I don't understand

Both of them a laughing matter. I enjoy watching Don Cherry as I believe everyone deserves a good laugh every now and then and he is so absurd that he is funny. Cherry is there to cause contraversy and he does it well. Its just a comment that is being blown out of proportion. As for Janets nipple flash. Cool, but again a laughing matter, and you want to talk about something being blown out of proportion, this is it. I saw it aired a dozen times during the news and never saw it live as I don't do football, (except the Grey Cup when Saskatchewan is playing, every 20 years or so.)

I read an interesting comment on the American media, in a roundabout way. It was from a Soviet immigrant to the US of A. He said that in the USSR people are taught to have one opinion, and in America you are taught to have none.
Sammy, how is it possible that you are surrounded by the Evil Eskimos and the Stampeders, and still cheer for the Roughriders? I guess it just goes to prove that they have some of the best fans in the world. Remind me to tell you sometime about the time I drank out of the grey cup in Toronto after the heartstopping SK win over Hamilton in the 1989 Grey Cup... One of my two sport epihanies.

Born and raised in Saskatchewan, (as is half of Alberta). Drank from the Grey Cup? I'm impressed. We used to make the treck from Saskatoon to Regina every chance we got to drink tequila and cheer on the Riders. Can't seem to remember if they ever won a game though.
