I feel the need to rant..indulge me!! someone explain why this would be a good idea? below is the Canucks latest acquisition..a 33 year old goalie who last stats posted are for 02/03?? yet they are letting Hedberg go? please im open..what am i missing? besides Crow's big dislike for 'the Moose'. allow me to introduce: Wade Flaherty? The Buffalo Sabres drafted Flaherty in the ninth round (181st overall) at the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. But before Flaherty made it to the AHL, the San Jose Sharks signed him as a free agent in 1991. The netminder debuted for the Sharks in 1991-92, playing three games. The highlight of his San Jose career was a 56-save, Game Seven double-overtime win that propelled the Sharks past the Calgary Flames in the first round of the 1995 playoffs. The New York Islanders signed Flaherty as a free agent in 1997, and he won 15 games there from 1997-2001. New York traded Flaherty to the Tampa Bay Lightning for an Entry Draft pick in 2001, and he signed with the Florida Panthers before the 2001-02 season. -- Pete Iorizzo where'd i put that Habs jersey?? i'm loosing faith here boys...oh they picked up a 'd' man and another winger..no rant there..well a smaller rant...i acknowledge that much of my hockey is heart felt rather than intellectually driven..but geesh .. rant complete thank you for your time >:(i found mr flaherty in the ahl..Milwaukee Admirals ..but it doesn't make me any happier..too many goalies!

roots -- NOT saying I disagree. Just filling in some info on Flaherty.
He played for Milwaukee Admirals this year leading the team to the Calder Cup title. Heard a lot about him because he is/was "local". He was impressive in playoffs.
Playoff stats: 21 GP 16W 5L 1SO 1.93 .932 Regular Season: 36 GP 21W 12L 3T 3SO 2.18 .922

Honestly I don't know enough about Hedberg to make a judgement.

:oWARNING THE BELOW OPINION IS RATHER SIMPLISTIC..HOCKEY PURISTS MIGHT WANT TO SKIP IT heres my take on Vancouvers goalie woes..Cloutier is a good tender [has a fiesty side] but needs a solid back up..in comes Hedberg [also good tender] so now when Clouts is off the fall back guy is solid [and maybe challanging for starter] ..throw in Auld as your third go to guy and sounds pretty good..Crawford publicly dis's Hedberg..Cloutier goes down injured..Hedberg gets yanked prematurely and Auld fills in [did a good job too].end of season. so now Hedberg wants out[so i hear and who can blame him] they drafted a goalie [good planning..kudo's] and now have picked up yet another goalie? its going to be interesting to see how it plays out in the new season whenever that is..me i'd like to see more of Auld...and i doubt we'll see much of Flaherty he'll end up a moose..and looks like cloutiers off to arbitration.

Hey Roots... don't get me started on the Canucks goalie woes.... Remember, Vancouver is, to quote a former GM here, a "Goaltender Graveyead" We have had 16 goalies play for the Canucks since 1997, including now UFA (Unrestricted Free Agent) "goalie of the FUTURE" Kevin Weekes. Speculation on the Hedberg-Crawford dynamic is that it stemmed from the last-preseason when Johan went down with a knee (?) injury and people think Crawford thought he took too long to come back, and things started to sour from there, including the famous "He was terrible" comment Crow made after a game in Philly last year.... I agree with you, Hedberg deserved a proper chance here, but he never got one..... Gurj in Vancouver.

If only Golisano (Buffalo owner) would drop "why should I make a deal"" Regier and pick up Burke.
