Here are my votes:
No particular order
1. Bobby Clarke- never liked him, cheap shot on V. Kharlamov, and later against Rod Seiling in NHL
2. Boris Mikhailov- few seem to remember the kick on Gary Bergman in 72 series.
3. Ulf Samuelson- the cheap shot master and the career ender

i'll second samuelsson..not a big fan of Brian Marchments either...im assuming we are talking in terms of causing injury rather than generally being hated for mouthing off etc?

Now that's a good question because I immediately thought about current players I just don't like ... like Tucker and Worrell. But I'm going to throw into the mix this question .. who's a budding "dirtiest" player ... my vote goes to Jason Doig of the Caps.

Bryan Marchment - his mantra was simply "intent to injure"

1. Bobby Clark (72 Series, only time I felt bad about being a Canadian hockey fan.) 2. Marchment (Shouldn't be allowed to play.) 3. Ty Domi (Cheap shots and mouthy)

Marchment has also pretended to be injured by other players many times.

Others we haven't mentioned in no particular order:
1. Gary Suter (Gretzky was never the same) 2. Darcy Tucker - one of the current worst crop (e.g. low hit on Peca) 3. Martin Havlat - his cross-check to Recchi's face and kick in one season (two suspensions) shows how much of a hot-head punk he has become 4. Ville Nieminnen - we may like him, but two suspensions in one playoff, and continuous running of the goalie is pretty dirty although still amusing 5. Dale Hunter - wasn't he the one who knocked Pierre Turgeon out of the playoffs after scoring the gamewinning goal?

There have been many but to me without a doubt Samuelsson and Marchment lead the pack.

In my mind a dirty player is somebody who has a history of injuring other players with questionable hits. I recall guys like: Kasparaitis, Marchment and Sammuelson were disliked extremely (by other players) as their hits could be career-ending.
In contrast to: enforcers (ie. Brashear, Oliwa, Worrell, etc.) who often fight other enforcers or agitators (ie. Avery, Holik, Tikannen, etc.) who trash talk/act unruly in order to disrupt the opposing team.

I second Kasparitis big time! Uncalled for! Roman Hamarlik's cross check on Theo Fleury in the 3-3 Canada-Czech Republic Salt Lake Olympic game gives me him as a vote...Wayne Gretzky whacked Doug Gilmore across the face in the 1993 Playoffs with his stick, no call, then Gretzky scores the winning goal and Los Angeles advances!
