OK, now that I have the attention of all the car fanatics on these boards, this is really a car CLEANING question. I'm embarrassed to ask it but I must because I have tried everything to no avail ... how the heck do you clean your windshield/windows without leaving any streaks? I have never had this problem before ... have always managed to clean my other cars with no problem. But my VW window ... streaks streaks streaks. I've tried soap and water, Windex, Windex with vinegar, straight vinegar, Simple Green and some window cleaner from the automotive shop. Nothing works. My windshield and windows look like they are coated with Vaseline, inside and out. This is very annoying and I suspect part of some weird German plot to drive me crazy before the mid-season draft. After all, I'm only 2 points behind MR in the standings and I really don't believe Gereagle is actually working all of those long hours installing computers. Surely the two of them are cooking up something to ensure we NAs don't win this pool and this vaseline coating on my car windows is just the start. Hmm, now that I think about it, do we really believe Dan-Can is in the Bahamas ... and Balder just doesn't have the time to frequent these boards? And is Pihinalle really in the military? A EURO plot is afoot my NA friends ... your windows are next I tell ya! ;D OK, now for real ... any ideas on what works best for car windows?

I can't help you with your old Hitler sleigh Have to ask my better half. She knows more about cars than I do. Of Course we're in the Bahamas right now. On Monday we will return to Florida and head to Washington D.C. Will pass through N.C. around 6th or 7th January. Have to check whether the Hurricanes have any homegames on those dates.

Try this link, marrella... www.diynet.com/diy/ab_safety/article/0,2021,DIY_13691_2270901,00.html My brother is a mechanic and I recall him advising to use a lint-free cleaning cloth... Speaking of Euro plots... I'm think of getting a (older) Volvo in the future. There's a accident-prone stretch of road in my neighbourhood and I saw the aftermath of a 3-car pileup on Xmas day. Time for me to get something bigger and safer, me thinks!

Hey Marrella, I use some stuff called Gunk that I get from the local NAPA store in town here. It works good.

Lets see now. 1986 Mercury Sable with 91,000km (mint condition), our Sunday cruise around the country side car. Big old beast but really comfortable to drive and good on gas. 1978 Ford F150 truck (in the process of restoring to original) except for box which I'm replacing with an oak flat deck. Everything is ready to go on it except the flat deck and throw a paint job on it. 1985 Mercury Topaz with 321,000km (my rip around town car, 4spd transmission, 42mpg) Rusted and as ugly as sin, but I just love driving 4 speeds. 2003 Dodge Minivan (my wifes rip around town vehicle)
Project cars to keep me busy when I retire that I have parked in my father in laws shed. 1972 Dodge Dart Swinger 2 door 6 cylinder. Body is excellent, but interior and motor need an overhaul. 1966 Pontiac, with push button automatic transmission and rounded fins. Bought this from my brother in law for $50.00. Body good, motor is completely gone. 1985 Ford Taurus (parts car for my 85 Topaz) On my want list is an early 60's Chevy 1/2 ton in good shape.

1988 Toyota Corolla GT-S (180,000 km) - excellent condition but plan to replace it with something bigger and safer.
1969 Pontiac Firebird - good condition but needs restoring

Hmm, streaks on the windshield... I usually ignore it until i have zero visability. Then, when cleaning it, and able to look through the windshield again, streaks seem like a minor problem. Nah, but surely there is some magic stuff that must work. Buy every bottle of every manufacture there is, and let us now what worked best! Car: Only 1 car now. My precious (hm, that sounded like Gollum didnt it VW Golf -94. A motorcycle! I need a motorcycle!!

First ... thanks for all the suggestions for my windshield. I will give them all a try ... and if nothing works, I'll have to simply go the Balder route. Oh no, Dan-Can! This is just so typical of what happens to me. I rarely have to travel for work anymore, but I'm supposed to be out of town T-W on business, then heading to Atlanta on Thursday for my mom's b'day celebration that weekend. However, let me see if I can change my travel schedule and I'll post back on this site sometime this weekend. I can tell you this ... you won't want to watch the Canes play. We stink. But STL should be worth watching. Regardless, I may be able to get you a couple of free tix if you decide to stop in Raleigh for the game. Let me work on that also and I'll post back.

The Wide Asleep's also have a Škoda, a 2002 Fabia Combi. One interesting bit of trivia is that Škoda means "Pity." That doesn't mean that the cars are ad, it got the name from the company founder, Emil Škoda.

Hi marrella, it's really very kind of you to consider changing your trip (and try to get free tix), but that's all too much. Besides, I'm not totally sure that we will be able to make it. You see, we're heading back to Denmark on 9 January, and my wife would like to spend a couple of days in Washington (she's never been there).
But it would have been awesome to make a rendezvous at a hockey game. I'm sure there will be another time for that though.
we are in Savannah, Georgia right now. Heading for Smoky Mountains tomorrow.

I usually go the Balder route on dealing with windshield smagma. I let it get good and thick before I attempt to clean it. I thought I needed glasses for night driving until I washed the windshield the last time..LOL
I have my beloved 1998, 3/4 ton, Dodge Ram 4x4. That is my pride and joy but I can not drive it regularly because it sucks gas like it owns OPEC.
I bought a "going to hockey games" vehicle last fall. It is the ugliest beast on the road. It is a Honda Element, basically a square metal and plastic box on wheels with all-wheel drive and has plastic flooring and is incredibly practical for traveling and hauling camera equipment and my two dogs. And did I mention it is a Honda? If there has been one constant in my life, through men, children, relationships, jobs, homes, and pets, I have always had a honda of some sort, be it a motorcycle or one of 6 different Honda cars I have owned. I should be a spokesperson for Honda..LOL

Japanese cars and Finnish climate. I have also another comments for that. Actually Emil Skoda was not the originally founder of Skoda cars. They were gentlemens Laurin and Klement.
