Jazz: There will be one exhibition game SVK vs. SWE, 22th of August, in Bratislava. Then the team will move to NA to play another two games vs. CAN and RUS (28/08 and 29/08). Eurohockey Services is organizing a camp for Czech and Slovak NHLers in the summer. There will be a golf and tennis tournaments, exhibition soccer game NHLers vs. former Czecho-Slovak soccer stars, exhibition hockey tournament in Mlada Boleslav (CZ) (with exhibtion rules: 10 min, 4 players), also with some entertainment (penalties etc.) The events sound like a lot of fun. Can you keep us posted with more details or links?

Can I seriously ask what is the point of having a Slovakia - Russia game here in North America?? I mean that since they are coming over to play in the North American pool - at least give them a game (in Russia's case) or a 2nd game (in Slovakia's case) in their home rink. At least in 1996, Russia had a home exhibition game in Moscow vs Finland and a game against Sweden in Stockholm before flying over here.. Slovakia also had a home game vs Germany then.

No idea, maybe some JP Jalo They don't know yet themselves I think, e-mailed them when we discussed this same topic @ ihwc but no answer yet. That was at the time of the Eurovision Song Contest - with commentator Markus Kajo. He could do fine in hockey too I think . With Mertaranta they'd make a "dream team" of bad jokes ;D

Well, Mertaranta ain't tied to YLE (the national Finnish broadcasting corporation that sends e.g. the world champs hockey), but is a freelancer. So there is a chance we see him commentating the cup games, since I see no reason why Nelonen couldn't at least ask him. And generally, unless something odd occurs, I see no reason for him disagree, as he obviously enjoys commentating top-notch hockey games and is THE commentator the grand audience probably wants to hear. Actually, the possibilities ARE higher than just close to zero that we will hear his voice in the fall. And having Kajo there... well that WOULD be something. Then again, the slow-paced comments are part of that what makes Kajo funny, so he might not be an optimal person for a hockey game. BUT if he was there with Mertaranta, I'd be sure to keep my ears extra tuned up. But aside the commentator question, the thing I'm more concerned about is actually... what if they're going to have ad-breaks when the period is on? That would be

>>Probably no point but to offer more games for North American fans to see. Well, I don't see the point of hosting a hockey event on two different continents anyway. The World Cup should be in North America entirely, and next time in Europe entirely. >>And afterwards they still wonder why the World Cup isn't so popular and appriciated in Europe than it is in Canada or USA The World Championships doesn't have the USA-Can games in North America. And Europeans still wonder why the World Championships isn't so popular and appreciated in North America as it is in Europe.

@ EveB Tervehdys Sinullekin! Yes, I agree with you, Kajo and Mertaranta together would surely be something...but there´s a risk of not seeing any of the action on ice...with your eyes filled with tears from laughing... @ Laho Thanx! I thought that might be the case with Mertaranta, but wasn´t quite sure...those negotiations of his with YLE were some years ago, weren´t they So we still have hope to hear him in the fall...

Well, I don't see the point of hosting a hockey event on two different continents anyway. I see nothing wrong with that, since the World Cup is so seldom played tournament with only a couple of games. As World Championships is played every year it's ok to have it in one country. Stupid ppl on both sides of Atlantic. But maybe after 2008 more World Championships seen also on your side ;D

Hi NyQuil!
I share your opinion on playing the WC on two continents...besides I don´t think the teams are in equal positions when the european pool teams must travel to NA in the middle of the tournament.
