Well well well. I'll be damned.
Okay, the offence looks just fine. Peltonen and Hentunen were expected names, no doubt. I was rooting for Pärssinen too, but oh well, somehow I knew you can't have it all. And I thought Pirnes played himself out of the team in the champs.
Toskala being the goalie number three... just when I got to say in that other thread it's going to be Nurminen. Well, nothing but an example of the wide set of able netminders we have available.
Defense caused biggest surprises... and there's only SEVEN of them? (And there's no 16 forwards either.) Weren't we allowed to have eight? And what on earth is Betoniporsas-Berg doing there? Absence of Nummelin and Karalahti is a slight surprise too...
But oh well, we'll have to see.

I didn't expect to see Eloranta there. And Pirnes.. well he was quite a big disappointment in the World Championships. I'm also supriced (but happy) to see Teppo Numminen there. I heard some rumors that his medical condition wasn't too good (some problems with heart) and he's ending his career. Good to see that's not the case. Berg Et toi noi.. he's useless. And still no coach to take care of goalies..

Nasse-setä is now very very unhappy about this, kids...
Still asking, where's our 8th defenseman? And Pirnes... why him and not Pirjetä?

Okay, after a bit of thinking, the reason for Pirnes in the team might be that he forms a great linkup with Eloranta.
Still wondering why in the heck there's just 7 defenders on the list.
Possible team lineup:
Selänne-Koivu-Lehtinen
Peltonen-Jokinen-T.Ruutu
Hentunen-N. Kapanen-S. Kapanen
Eloranta-Pirnes-Laaksonen
J. Ruutu-Hahl-Nieminen

Looks like a good roster. I was happy to see Mikko Eloranta made the roster. I have always liked his play.
Also wondering about the seven defensemen.

There´s some suprises, but overall I´m happy with our roster! The only thing I don´t like, is that Raimo didn´t choose Nummelin or Karalahti... Berg should NOT be there. We have plenty of good defencers, so we don´t need him.
No goalie-coach? That sucks. And I didn´t expect Toskala to be the third goalie... I´d guessed either Nurminen or Norrena.

that Raimo didn´t choose Nummelin... I think the same. It´s great to see him play. Hope for a great game in Cologne in September, with no more than ten goals for Soumi against Germany. Some of you will be there?

Summanen also picked eight defenseman, Jere Karalahti, but so far he's got no permission from NHL to play in World Cup. If he won't get permission, he'll be replaced by either Niinimaa or Nummelin. (Finnish ice hockey association)
So this is the reason he's missing from the official roster. Jere has a history of using drugs -> NHL doesn't allow him to play.

It's still open with Karalahti, we'll see if they let him play, that's why they haven't named anyone to replace him, yet.
But if Karalahti isn't allowed to play, who's going to replace him?
Nummelin or Niinimaa most likely.

I´d love to see Karalahti in our team, but if not, I hope Nummelin will replace him.

Terve everyone!
Not seeing Niinimaa is a surprise to me as well...That guy is a workhorse.
I think the coaches just wanted to name the team and not have some players around who will not play....that might explain not using all 23 spots.
And I also recall Karalahti being put in some drug rehabilitation program, but he did not take part in it (he may have even bolted to Europe). I think he has been suspensed by the NHL eversince.

So he can play in the NHL, but can´t play for his team at the World Cup? It is really ridiculous. The NHL is really how to say it politely......... special.
