I'd give the "A"s to Jokinen and Numminen.

Just to be sure: Is there someone who has absolutely no idea who is certainly (100% sure) going to wear the C?

And if you didn't know, it's a tradition that at least one of the three letters will be worn by a defender... Now that you mentioned it.. Hmm. No, I didn't know. I've noticed the defenders there, but didn't think there always have to be one. In that case I hope Peltonen and Numminen. Might be Jokinen and Timonen though.

Okay, this is not some good news... or then it is, can't really say.
According to today's Hämeen Sanomat, (a Finnish newspaper) Summanen has chosen the 8th defender to replace Jere Karalahti who was prohibited.
It's Janne Niinimaa.

so even though he's completed rehab in Finland and is testing clean..the NHL issues are interferring with his playing in a non NHL event? or are there other issues?..still too bad he's not on the roster

Actually, World Cup is an NHL related event. Karalahti is allowed to play any kind of event put up by the IIHF... but World Cup is de facto set up by NHL and its player association, and for some odd reason, to them Jere is still a big no-no... I think that they're just afraid of the man, though. Wimps.

Actually, World Cup is an NHL related event. Technically speaking, this event is more the NHLPA's than the NHL's. The Players Association gets more of the money, although the split is more like 55-45. Early on, during the Canada Cup days, the event was entirely (or at least even more than it is now) an NHLPA event. So, with this in mind, anyone hear if the NHLPA has anything to say on the Karalahti issue?

There is nothing more to say anymore. Karalahti does not play in the World Cup and he was replaced by Niinimaa. Period. Case closed.
If you're however looking their earlier statements and reasons, I recommend checking some of the earlier posts on this thread.

As we all know, defender Jere Karalahti was kicked out of World Cup thanks to NHLPA. We actually tried to contact Jere for a comment, but he was not unfortunately home at a time. Couple of hours later, by a lucky strike, we managed however to reach him in the end of the line from a nearby corner pub. So with all you, I can present Karalahti's comments to the situation, exclusively for IHG only:
"Shaatana, mä en enää kusekkaan Amerikkaan päin. Pitäkää turnaukshenne, vitun miljönäärihomot."
Due to the backround noise, we can't however be exactly sure about the wording so, we've sent the taped comment to a linguist so he can sharpen the sentence and work out a best possible translation in English (for those of you who wondered why it's Finnish only). Several hockey experts have however confirmed, that the person speaking on the tape is actually Karalahti.
That's all for now... stay tuned.
