>>our national team has B team at the WCs. Just imagine, that you were on our place....what would you feel ?
Well, we have that happening all the time.
A lot of our stars turn down invitations to go to the WCs.
In the last 10 years or so, it has been mainly our younger players who go overseas.
I think you have to believe that you can win with any team. The US team this year at the WCs proved that.
As for Yashin, I lived in Ottawa throughout his career in the NHL. While he was extremely effective and dominant in the regular season, he was usually invisible in the playoffs, and his selfish contract dispute (he sat out an entire season even though he was under contract) ended any good feelings Ottawa had for him.
All Alexei had to do was play his last season under that contract, and then leave. He got really bad advice from his agent, and he ended up having to play another season for the Senators anyway. Yashin is always booed when he comes to Ottawa.
Canadians evaluate players based on their performances in the playoffs. Some players, like Koivu, Forsberg have been able to play well in the playoffs. Others, like Havlat and Yashin, have not performed up to their potential in the post-season.
As far as Yashin being Captain of Russia, I don't remember seeing a truly outstanding performance from him in international games either. Kovalev would be a better selection.

I just read a piece of news, that Khabibulin is not going to play in World Cup, because of the poor administration of their national team

www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?id=87847"We have no chance of winning based on the current situation surrounding the preparations of our national team," Khabibulin was quoted as saying by Sport-Express newspaper. "I have already had a similar experience before the 1996 World Cup when there was total chaos in our organization. This time we have more of the same and frankly I don't see any point in my participation in this tournament," he added. Khabibulin is coming off one of the best seasons of his career, helping lead the Tampa Bay Lightning to their first Stanley Cup. The Russian squad will also be without goaltender Evgeni Nabokov, who is having knee surgery next month.
