Dominik Hasek is almost definitely finished with the Red Wings and now there is talk here in the CR about his moving to Ottawa to replace Lallime. Is this just one of those Czech news stories based on flimsy rumour or has someone heard about it over there, too? Seem to be a lot of Ottawa fans here, now...

Ottawa shouldn't go after Hasek.
While goaltending is a problem, Hasek is not the answer.
Reflex goalies like Dominik only get worse with age, unlike positional goalies who basically reduce angles and the odds of scoring as opposed to actually trying to save every shot.
Also, he'll cost a pretty penny.
When he won the Cup with Detroit in 2002, he wasn't spectacular in net and was a far cry from his days with the Sabres and the Czech team in 1998.
It'll be interesting to see what develops. Ottawa has an outstanding rookie goaltender in Ray Emery that has been kept in the AHL for too long now.

I also think it wouldn´t be good for the senators to go after Hašek. In my opinion, Prusek is now better than Hašek, much more perspective too. Also consider the problems with groins he´s suffered for. He is not the Dominator anymore. And he should have never come back overseas after the winning cup when he retired. I think his time is really over.

I've been hearing all weekend that Hašek was supposed to sign with the Sens over the past weekend.....so far, nothing.

I've heard that rumour as well. There's a Hasek watch at the airport to see if he shows up! Hasek is not the answer so forget it Mucks! I read in the Ottawa Sun is that Mucks wants to sign Hasek, trade Lalime, Prusek will be back up to Hasek & Emery will continue to grow grass under his feet on the farm team! As Charlie Brown would say 'Good grief'! You mean to tell me that the Sens can't find a younger more talented goaltender than Hasek!

There was a story a while ago that Ottawa, Vancouver & NYR were in the Hasek sweepstakes. However, NYR is out of the running as Hasek is interested in joining a Stanley Cup contender. Ottawa is probably Hasek's top choice given his past connections to John Muckler (general manager) and less travel in the Eastern Conference.

Update:
Hašek was quoted on the radio saying that he'll take about 2 weeks to decide where he is going. He didn't name any names but did say that he was sure he would not be back in Detroit.

Hasek is one of the coolest goalies, of course. But with all respect, with his behavior since "retirement" he has become a clown. Sometimes it looks like he does not know what he really wants. My point is - if some GM has too few problems now, he can sign Hasek.

Hasek said he was finished in Detroit. A lot of the players were pissed at him for his quiting in mid season. Several players questioned how serious his injury was, so there's a lot of bad blood in Detroit. I think he's a waste of money but he Muckler's not finished ruining the Sens! So we will probably get stuck with Hasek!

I have never cared for Hasek ... frankly, don't think he's all that great. So I hope he DOESN'T wind up in Ottawa. However, the Ottawa rumor is even in the draft recaps on NHL.com.

I have never cared for Hasek ... frankly, don't think he's all that great. I can't say I agree (although just my opinion as is yours). 2 Hart Trophies, 2 Lester B Pearson Trophies (In my opinion more valuable than the Hart because your peers vote), 5 Vezina Trophies, an Olympic Gold Medal, Stanley Cup winner. As a Sabres fan I watched him backstop us to the Cup finals in 1999. While he had plenty of help during that run -- he also kept that run going many a time. I couldn't stand Hasek's personality. I met him once and thought he was a jerk and he came across as one in the press too, but I totally respected what he did on the ice during his years in Buffalo and it was exciting to watch him. He was a great player -- not sure how much he has left any more.

Goalies are strange fellows.
When you see Patrick Roy twitching in that way of his, or Nikolai Khabibulin is much the same way...
Belfour exploding in anger in games, and offering police officers a "billion dollars" when inebriated, Billy Smith swinging his stick at his OWN players to get them out of his crease, Hextall and Emery fighting as much as they can, Hasek beating up a guy at a charity roller-blading hockey game, Kiprusoff's inability to show any emotion (Vulcan?), Cechmanek's strange obsession with leaving his crease (No wonder they call him Roamin')
A lot of weird goaltenders out there.

full agreement nyquil..you have to be just a little odd to be a goalie. the average person doesn't enjoy being pelted with fast moving rubber discs. as for Hasek..please go to Ottawa or home..those Vancouver rumours were making me uneasy although i like the Sens, have to think adding an overpriced injury prone goalie to your roster is just not good business..keep Lalime

>>keep Lalime
What most people don't realize is that Lalime had a very injury prone season.
He was very ill with the flu on two occasions, missing large amounts of time and bringing Martin Prusek into the spotlight.
He never really regained his rhythm, and it showed in the end.
I suppose my problem is basically that everyone is yelling "goaltender, goaltender", when in reality, there aren't a lot of quality goaltenders to be had.
Teams are wise enough not to deal their legitimate # 1 guys (Theodore, Giguere, Belfour, Raycroft, Luongo etc.) and many of the former # 1 types (Joseph, Hasek) are not displaying their old form.
Those two in particular are noteworthy as they are "reflex" style goalies as opposed to positional ones. I still maintain that goalies that rely on athletic ability are far more unreliable in their old age than those who play a positional, butterfly style.
