NyQuilDo you think Ottawa should pursue Hasek (from your standpoint as a fan)? What about if it remains Prusek and Lalime? Did Prusek do enough to merit the starting job? Since the Buffalo is in the same division I am interested in what Ottawa ends up doing as well as your take on the 'keeper situation. P.S. -- I always liked Lalime, but I recognize that that doesn't mean he's the answer.

Good points Brimsek39. I"m probably just letting my dislike for his personality get in the way of objectively evaluating his overall performance. Anyway, Nyquil, the Canes will be more than happy to offer up Weekes!

NyQuilDo you think Ottawa should pursue Hasek (from your standpoint as a fan)? What about if it remains Prusek and Lalime? Did Prusek do enough to merit the starting job? From the Ottawa standpoint, Ray Emery is considered the goalie of the future. AHL all-rookie team goaltender, he also fights (!!) and isn't afraid of anyone. Prusek was considered a competent backup, but when Lalime became ill, he came in and showed remarkable talent for staying cool under pressure. I've seen good things from him, but never anything spectacular, and his rebound control isn't great. I'm not quite sure if he's ready for the # 1 position. I guess, I would probably go into the next season (if there is one) with the same 3 goalies, except I'd give them all a good number of games to see if there is one who stands out. I would not pursue Hasek for two reasons: (1) I doubt he'll return to the hall of fame form we remember. I'm not too fond of old athletic goalies. (2) He'll undoubtedly still be expensive, even with a pay cut. Lalime, for all of his faults, is a bargain. While it's obvious you can't go cheap with a goalie (Kiprusoff and Khabibulin both had stellar playoffs), guys like Hasek and Kolzig could end up eating up a lot of salary for a inconsistent return. As an Ottawa fan, I've seen good things from Weekes. I think there was a tie this year where Weekes made 40 + saves. His problem is that he can be a bit of a hot and cold goalie, which can be a problem when important games come up.

Hasek's next team will be the Ottawa Senators. According to the Ottawa newspapers he will sign on Canada Day(July1)Lalime will become an Avalanche and Bondra will have to take a pay cut if he wants to stay in Ottawa. There will be no qualifying offer to Bonk so he will not be back in Ottawa. I don't know if Muckler will tell Bonk if you want stay in Ottawa you will have to take a pay cut.

Well, Bonk is out, as expected, and the 3.5 million can go towards Bondra or Hasek or both.
Taking a gamble on Hasek could work out, especially if his contract is loaded with playoff performance bonuses, as is speculated.
However, if he goes and pulls his groin again, and Lalime has been shipped elsewhere, it'll be Emery or Prusek in the playoffs.
Hrmmm.

Well, Lalime was traded to St Louis. I wonder who will replace him now? Hmmm....

I presume Hasek will replace Lalime. It's a gamble but I don't think Prusek is good enough to be #1. I don't think Emery is even good enough for a #2 spot but since were stuck with 'em, we'll have to make the best of our lousy goalies! If there's a season we will see if Hasek is still a #1 goalie or a has been!

It is a done thing! No speculations anymore. And what do u think? Myself, I don´t know. Of course many people expect he´ll suck, cause he´s old, but I think he will be still a top 10 goalie the next season. Maybe his reflexes are not the same anymore, but he can read the game better. I heard that the sens fans are not glad to see Hšek in the net instead of Lalime. Naturally. And I think Prusek will be changing in the net with Hašek.

The last laughs the most. We´ll see at the end of the season...If there will be any this year. Even though Hašek sucked, there is still Prusek.

Spezza no longer has goaltender's number[/u][/color] By BRUCE GARRIOCH -- Ottawa Sun July 7th, 2004 source: CANOE.COMJason Spezza didn't have to think twice. The Senators centre, who has worn the No. 39 for the last two seasons, had no problem handing it over to newly acquired goaltender Dominik Hasek during a brief ceremony yesterday at the Corel Centre. As reported by the Sun, Spezza will wear No. 19. "The guy is going to be a hall of famer. That's a number he's been wearing his whole career and it means a lot to him," said Spezza. "I don't mind wearing No. 19. That's fine with me. I always liked Steve Yzerman as a kid growing up. "Let's face it, it's not the number that makes the player, it's what the player does with the number on his back that makes the player. This wasn't that big a deal for me. I just think it's great to have a guy like Dominik Hasek with our team." The Senators will welcome Hasek to the dressing room with open arms. While the players were sorry to see goalie Patrick Lalime traded to St. Louis, Hasek comes with an impressive track record and he wants to make up for what happened last year with Detroit. "Maybe if he's playing with a bit of a chip on his shoulder that's a good thing," said centre Todd White. "(Hasek) thinks he was disappointed with the way things ended last year ... well how does he think we felt? We weren't happy with the way our year ended either. Maybe we have something in common. "He wants to prove people wrong and he wants to go out there and get the job done. As a team, we're in the same position. The bottom line is we want to a win a Cup and so does he."

For me will be enough to laugh by watching Hasek with his "mop" style. His mop style earned him 6 vezina trophies, 2 jenning´s trophies and 2 harts. And find one goalie whose career save percentage is better than Hašek´s. None ever! Be not jealous.
