Hmmm... I was thinking that we should have a food thread! We could talk about: our last meal, favorite dishes, best beer or give out recipes... Anyway, let's start off with summer foods! Summer has definitely arrived in Vancouver as it's been hot lately and my mind has been on ice cream often! What's your favorite ice cream flavor? Me: chocolate chip, French vanilla and green tea ice cream.

I've had some Ice Cream that was called "Ragin' Cajun" flavour. Vanilla and Cajun spice. It was actually very good. The only place I've ever seen it was at the bus in Saskatoon (it might be called "The Bus Stop" or something like that, but we always just called it "the bus"). Perhaps Jd or someone else can confirm whether or not they still have it. I like cookie dough ice cream. Hell, skip the ice cream, just give me a bowl of cookie dough!

Cookies 'n' Cream and Coconut Ice Cream. Dispite all the flavors out there, any milkshake I have must be vanilla!

Last year, a friend in San Francisco introduced me to green tea ice cream. She took me to a Japanese restaurant which served it . Yum! There's a cool Vancouver ice cream store that sells it but it's pretty expensive. Here's the recipe I just found from the web:
Homemade Ice Cream Green Tea Ice Cream Recipe Ingredients: 2 egg yolks, 2 tablespoons dry green tea, 1 tablespoon sugar, 1/2 vanilla pod, 1 1/4 cups double (heavy) cream, 1/4 cup caster sugar, 1 1/4 cups milk, 2 tablespoons boiling water Take the dry green tea and soak in boiling water with the tablespoon of sugar for 10-12 minutes. Into a saucepan put the vanilla pod and milk and gently bring to the boil then pour this over the tea. Leave to stand for 5 or 6 minutes. Beat the egg yolks with the 1/4 cup caster sugar in a separate bowl and then strain the milk mixture into it. Transfer to a saucepan and gently heat, stirring all the time, until the mixture is thick. Leave to cool. Whip the double (heavy) cream and fold into the cooled tea mixture. Transfer the complete mixture into an ice cream maker and follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Now I am on the hunt for some Green Tea Ice Cream.... Although if that fails I have two recourses. 1) Buy myself an Ice Cream maker OR 2) Head west to Vancouver. It would be like killing two birds with one stone, I could visit my brother who moved out to Vancouver years ago and I could get some Green Tea Ice Cream.... Sounds like the better of two plans to me....
