Well, got home from an eventful practice at around 8:00 PM our time tonight. Sammy Jrs team hasn't been doing as good as they should this year and Sammy Jr must have thought it was time to shake things up a bit. Two of the kids were fooling around waiting their turn to do one of the skating drills and Sammy Jr. told them to quit. One of the kids gave him a shove. So the next thing you know, Sammy Jr. was sitting on top of him on the ice pummeling him with his fists. No real damage done as he was swinging with his gloves on and of course the other kid had his helmet and visor on, so no one got hurt. Best part of it was that the 3 coaches we had on the ice didn't see the start of it, but our 4th coach saw the whole thing and Sammy Jr. never even got into trouble for it. Gotta love Canadian hockey. Some of these 9 year olds take it fairly seriously.

Another busy weekend planned. Had planned to run up to Edmonton to see the Oilers skills competition, but the manager booked in a game for us on Sunday, so the skills competition is out. Mind you the Oilers seem to be lacking in skill this year, so it won't be much to miss.

The kids managed to win another today with a 2-1 win over Lacombe. The kid Sammy Jr. was fighting with at the practice last week scored both goals for us. Tomorrow is our Camrose game so hopefully the kids can make it 2 in a row.

Sammy Jrs team made it 2 in a row today knocking off a fairly strong team out of Camrose. Sammy Jr got 3 assists and the center on his line got a hat trick. Gotta like it.

Sammy Jr is down with a cold and will probably miss both practises this week. He informed me that he will be playing this weekend, sick or not as we rented the Coliseum in Red Deer for a game. It seats about 6000 people and the kids get a real blast playing there. They finally make it to the big time. The team we're playing is splitting the cost with our team so it only comes out to $130.00 per team. Pretty cheap for 2 hours of ice time plus referees.

The Cyechs have a saying about colds: If you just let it run its course it will take 7 days to get over, if you rest, take vitimins and other pills and all that, it only take 1 week to get over.

I always went on the theory that rum cured colds. It may not help, but it sure doesn't hurt.

The kids took a kicking today 10-4. They played like they were asleep. Sammy Jr. 1g, 1a. 4 penalty minutes. 2 for roughing, 2 for body contact. There is no body checking in this age group and he flattened a guy. He also tried to duke it out with biggest guy on their team. Dumb kid.

Sammy Jrs team is definately not a morning team. They squeeked out a 4-3 win over Wetaskiwin (and they were bad) this morning, but it was probably the worst game I've seen them play all year. I guess waking them up at 5:30 AM isn't a good thing. Sammy Jr was held off the score sheet, but had about 7 good chances.

Off to Leduc this coming weekend for a tournament. 4 games in 2 days. Its about a 2 hour drive from here so the whole team rented rooms in one of the local hotels there. Pool with water slides should keep the kids busy when they're not playing hockey.
